Thailand faces two-front battle: US-EU threaten to squeeze trade over Uighur repatriation to China

On March 13, 2025, many people were interested in the preparation for voting on the European Parliament’s resolution, which called for the use of free trade negotiations (FTA) as an advantage to pressure Thailand to reform laws that restrict freedoms, including suspending the deportation of Uighur refugees. The latest vote was completed. The results showed that the European Parliament condemned the human rights issues in Thailand. Members of the European Parliament voted 482 in favor, 57 against, and 68 abstentions to condemn the deportation of Uighur refugees to China and listed all of the demands to the Thai government in 8 points.
